MASTERCHEF: THE FINALS, 9PM, BBC1

AFTER weeks of culinary highs and lows, the latest series of the amateur cookery competition reaches the home stretch and, over the next four nights, the contestants have everything to cook for. Tonight’s challenge sees the remaining five — Delia, Geoff, Jilly, Thomas and Irini (right, with judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace) — preparing a five-course tasting menu for explorer Ranulph Fiennes and guests at the Royal Society, but the real test will be back in the MasterChef kitchen. Sadly, the cook leaving the competition tonight will miss out on tomorrow night’s once-in-a-lifetime trip as the four remaining contestants are whisked off to Hong Kong. After a week of challenges, just one will be left standing to claim the title on Friday night.
