TWO sisters return to the Scottish island where they were raised to scatter their father’s ashes. He was a legend on the island — a big, strong man who could run and cycle for miles — but now, his daughters are toiling up a hillside, with stones in their rucksacks, to scatter his ashes and build a cairn as his memorial. It’s a time of mixed emotions as their memories of their childhoods on the island, and of their father, couldn’t be more different. THE CAIRN (RADIO 4, 2.15PM) is a thoughtful drama about differing perception­s of the past.
