i WAS amused to read Mrs Curtis’s tale of her husband’s mishearing of the word ‘hat’, thinking she had said ‘cat’.

it reminded me of when my sister was explaining about the pruning of apple trees. She had heard that a good way to tell if the pruning was severe enough was to ‘throw your cap through it’. i thought she said ‘cat’, and she laughed when i was upset at the thought of my puss, Coco, being hurled through the branches.
