Home truths
AFTER suffering a series of falls and infections, I was worried when a friend suggested I spend some time in a residential care home. I thought once I went in, I wouldn’t come out.
I’d had a terrible time: my husband of more than 50 years had passed away after a series of operations. We never got to say goodbye because I was being treated in another hospital.
But my 14- week stay in Cavell Lodge, a care home in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, was the best thing I could have done.
The caring, friendly staff looked after me superbly. I was well fed, my medications were given on time and I soon regained my self-confidence.
I loved the company of the other residents in the home, which helped me get used to being without my husband.
I am now back at home, looking after myself with help from my family and friends. DIANE GREENLAND,
