BORROWERS looking to reduce the cost of credit card debt are being urged to act quickly.

Two years ago, top balance transfer credit cards offered customers 43 months to clear their debt without paying interest.

The longest deal today lasts just 29 months — the shortest it has been in five years, according to research by MoneySavingExpert. Barclaycard and Sainsbury’s Bank both offer a 29-month deal with a 1.99 pc and 3 pc fee respectively. However, if you can repay the debt two months earlier, Santander has a no-fee 27-month deal. Only those with squeaky-clean credit ratings will get the best deals. If not, you may be offered a shorter deal than advertised or be rejected entirely.
