Who’s telling the truth?
CLAIM: One million people attended a People’s Vote march in London on Saturday.
REALITY: Crowd control experts suggest less than half that number attended.
Professor of Crowd Science at Manchester Metropolitan University, Keith Still, analysed helicopter footage of the march to calculate how much space marchers occupied and how densely they filled it. He suggested 312,000 to 400,000 attended the demonstration.
Eric Kant, from Dutch crowd specialist firm Phase01, said: ‘It was a huge crowd last week, but I do not think the initial one million figure is realistic.’
CLAIM: Six million have signed a petition to stop Brexit
REALITY: It is possible to sign the petition multiple times if the user has separate email addresses. To stop fake accounts hijacking e-petitions, signatories have to verify their email address by clicking a link. But this does not stop users signing up from multiple email accounts using the same name and postcode.
