-

FILM COMEDY Stella’s Last Weekend, 6.15pm, Sky Premiere

RUGBY LEAGUE Leeds Rhinos v Castleford Tigers, 7pm, Sky Arena

CASTLEFORD have had a sparkling start to the season, pushing for top spot. The struggling Rhinos, however, need to turn around their poor form — and fast.

UPBEAT DRAMA Jane The Virgin, Netflix

THE new, fifth season of this sunny, soapy U.S. drama about an accidental mum opens with an episode directed by the show’s star, Gina Rodriguez. A new episode arrives every Thursday.

U.S. LAWYERS The Good Fight, 9pm, More4

THIS spin-off from The Good Wife returns for a new, third season, and it’s still the classiest U.S. drama on TV. Diane (Christine Baranski, pictured) is happy in episode one, which is a sure sign that things are about to go wrong. They do, and they get stranger, too — there’s even an animated musical number to explain a legal concept.

AMERICANADVENTURE David Jason: Planes, Trains & Automobiles, 9pm, Gold

DAVID JASON (pictured) loves motors and flying — he can even pilot a helicopter — and this new series takes him from Seattle to LA on the trail of the history of powered travel. He gets quite a twinkle in his eye when taking the controls of a DC-3.

COP COMEDY Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 9pm, E4

THE warm and snappy U.S. sitcom begins its new, sixth season on E4, one season ahead of what is available on Netflix. Peralta and Santiago are on their honeymoon in an opener that also deftly deals with Holt’s promotion and finds the show on reliable form.

L.A. POLICE The Rookie, 9pm, Sky Witness

IN EPISODE two, Nathan Fillion’s 40-year-old LA police rookie is behind the wheel in hot pursuit of a crook. ‘Everything you hit requires a separate accident report,’ says his training officer, bringing the show back down to earth and showing off its neat mix of familiar and fresh.

FREEVIEW MOVIE You Were Never Really Here, 9pm, Film4

THIS unconventional drama from British director Lynne Ramsay is a violent, dreamlike vision of a disturbed mind, disguised as a redemptive thriller. Joaquin Phoenix is the damaged ex-soldier working in private security, who is hired to rescue a Senator’s daughter.

BRIT SITCOM Dead Pixels, 9.30pm, E4

THREE maladjusted layabouts get their kicks from an online fantasy game in this new comedy, which is far less nerdy than it sounds. It’s about the characters rather than the game, and at the centre of this opening episode is a new boy in the office, whom unapologetically randy gamer Meg (Alexa Davies, pictured) wishes to ‘date’.

PR PROFESSIONAL SIO Flack, 10pm, W

THERE’S a distinct lack of hugs and learning in the finale to this scandalous PR drama, in which everything comes to a head at an outrageous footballer’s wedding. This show has sometimes felt like too much of a fantasy, but that means reality hits all the harder for Robyn when it returns . . .
