‘Waterboard’ pupil let off with caution
A SCHOOLBOY arrested over the alleged ‘waterboarding’ of a 15-year-old Syrian pupil was let off with a caution yesterday.
The unnamed 16-year-old was interviewed by police in November and faced a charge of assault. Police said prosecutors had concluded there was not sufficient evidence to charge the suspect with a racially aggravated assault.
He has accepted a caution instead, which means he has a criminal record but will not appear in the dock.
The incident sparked national controversy after footage emerged on social media of the Syrian boy being held down and having water poured over his face at Almondbury Community School in Huddersfield.
