5 Brit women in new series

FIVE British drivers have been selected for the new womenonly W Series championship that begins this spring. Jamie Chadwick, Alice Powell, Esmee Hawkey, Jessica Hawkins and Sarah Moore made the final 18 after potential competitors faced a series of trials ahead of the opening weekend at Hockenheim on May 3 and 4. Chadwick, 20, is the only female driver to win a British Formula Three race, while Powell, 26, impressed in junior categories before running out of funds. Organisers hope the six-race series, with a £1.15million prize fund, will be televised. The closing race of the first season will be staged at Brands Hatch on the weekend of August 10 and 11.
