IN his most celebrated film, set in Las Vegas, his character came to a rather sorry end.
And it seems Nicolas Cage’s latest marriage has followed suit. Only four days after marrying there, the Hollywood star has applied for an annulment.
It means the marriage – his fourth – has lasted even less time than his second, to Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie, which collapsed after three months.
the 55-year-old, who won the best actor Oscar for his role as an alcoholic in 1995’s Leaving Las Vegas, had married 34-yearold make-up artist Erika Koike last Saturday.
the couple were spotted at the Clark County Court House marriage licence bureau in downtown Vegas at 11am that day.
Cage, in a leather jacket with a picture of the Sex Pistols’ Sid Vicious on it, seemed ‘out of it’ and ‘likely drunk’, a witness said. the actor was filmed causing a commotion as he applied for a marriage licence with Miss Koike, shouting ‘she is going to take all my money’ to baffled passers-by. the witness said that at one point the actor raised his voice and started shouting that Miss Koike’s former boyfriend was a ‘drug dealer’.
A video shows Miss Koike calmly telling Cage: ‘Baby, I never asked you to do this’, before he smiles and gently pushes her through the hallway, saying: ‘Come on, let’s go.’
Because the couple were causing a scene, they were taken into a private room and later left the courthouse with papers, according to the source.
It has now been reported that Cage asked a judge for an annulment on Wednesday. the newlyweds are believed to have started dating a year ago but little is known about Miss Koike, who has only one credit on the Internet Movie DataBase as a makeup artist for a 2012 short film.
Cage – whose films include Raising Arizona, Con Air and Gone In 60 Seconds – was married to actress Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001. His second marriage, to Lisa Marie Presley, lasted three months in 2002.
His third wife was actress Alice Kim. Married from 2004 to 2016, they have a 13-year-old son called Kal-El – the birth name of Superman. He has a 28-year-old son from another relationship.
Despite a recent poor run and a lack of major roles, his films have grossed more than £2billion at the box office during his 37-year career.
