‘Gunman’ is arrested at St Paul’s

A MAN suspected of carrying a gun was arrested outside St Paul’s Cathedral by armed officers yesterday.

The arrest followed reports of a man with a gun involved in a domestic incident in Shoreditch, east London.

Witnesses said they saw the suspect with a large handgun near the gift shop at St Paul’s, pictured.

The man fled and is believed to have discarded the weapon in the churchyard before being detained. City of London Police said the man in custody was believed to be the same individual involved in the domestic incident.

Parts of St Paul’s Cathedral were cordoned off for almost four hours as detectives examined evidence.

A cathedral spokesman said there would be extra security checks.
