Sheeran cleared in planning row over his ‘wildlife pond’
WHEN Ed Sheeran won planning permission for a water feature on his sprawling estate, the terms were clear – it must be used for wildlife, not recreation.
So it’s little wonder eyebrows were raised when the pop star’s pond was supplemented with a jetty, cabin and some steps.
However, the singer seems to be in the clear after a team of investigators found ‘no evidence’ it was being used as a swimming pool ‘as plants are growing in and around it’.
The pond was built on Sheeran’s Suffolk estate near Framlingham in 2017. But locals soon complained
to the council, with one, Tony Robinson, writing: ‘I believe that the development of the site is more about creating an environment for a “wild lifestyle” rather than actual “wildlife”!’
A spokesman for Suffolk Coastal District Council said its team ruled no planning conditions had been broken. An application written on behalf of the 28-yearold star said the add-ons would enable access for ‘maintenance and emergency’. The estate also boasts four houses and a cinema.
