Can any skin product help smooth my saggy neck?

- by Inge van Lotringen

QI’M NEARING my 80s and have developed the dreaded ‘turkey neck’. Surgery is too costly, so can you recommend any skincare that’s likely to make an improvement?

AI’m not going to lie to you, there is no way that skincare will tighten up significantly loose skin (despite what the advertising tells you), so, if your real goal is to get rid of the ‘turkey wobble’, don’t waste money on creams.

Having said that, a good neck cream can smooth a crepey, slack neck, making it feel a bit denser and firmer and look more youthful. these creams tend to be rich in moisturisers,

protectants and replenishing agents that deal with the dryness and thinning of skin that comes with age.

they help protect and restore your lipid barrier — which is essential for maintaining skin’s integrity and health.

But they won’t permanently ‘transform’ your neck after a few weeks’ use — you’ll need to make them part of your daily routine, as your skin needs constant ‘refiling’ of lost lipids.

SkinCeuticals triple Lipid Restore 2: 4: 2 treatment (£130, skinceuticals.co.uk) is a replenisher, while neoStrata triple Firming neck Cream (£57, facethefuture.co.uk) not only plumps, but also evens out pigmentation.

Prai Ageless throat And Decolletage Cream (£25, marks & Spencer) gets rave reviews for its fast-acting ability to lock in moisture and plump lines.
