A good time to bury bad news about the NHS
YOU would have thought that a hospital trust selling off 20 per cent of its land and nationwide plans to dismantle GP services would be big news.
But like much of importance happening right now, these stories have been buried under the nonstop coverage of Brexit.
The little- reported naylor review into how efficiently the NHS uses its land and property, implemented by the Government, has led to vast amounts of hospital grounds being flogged off.
In my area, it’s already happened to epsom hospital, while St helier, which is run by the same trust, is under threat.
Plans are being hurried through to get GPs to sign up to Primary Care networks by mid-May. This will involve a reduction of GP practices and many being merged.
We are seeing the dismantling of the NHS, restricting our access to treatments, downgrading or closure of our hospitals and re- structuring our health system in such a way that I believe people will be forced to go private.
COLIN CRILLY, London SW17. The NHS is so inefficient. one million or more missed appointments a month, myriad purchasing policies, soaring bills for agency staff, multiple layers of administrators and a reluctance to charge health tourists.
And there is so much waste when walking frames and crutches are discarded after a single use.
