Too old at 50?

I HAVE a Masters, a professional qualification and have worked all my life. In 18 years in customer service, I’ve always achieved a 100 per cent customer satisfaction rating of excellent.

I am loyal, punctual, fit and healthy. My position was made part-time a year ago with a salary too low to cover my basic living expenses, so I have applied for any and every job — full-time, parttime, night shift, seasonal and minimum wage — but I rarely get through to the interview stage. The only reason that can explain this is my age.

When I was in my 30s and 40s, I got any job I applied for, but now I am in my 50s, I’ve hit an employment wall, even though I have years before retirement age.

employers, stop complaining that you won’t find workers after Brexit. We’re here and eager to work, but you can’t see us.
