The season of fresh starts

-

AS THE days become longer, the uplifting season of spring brings welcome sightings of frisky lambs, nesting birds, buttercups and bluebells.

It’s a time for fresh starts and spring-cleaning sessions at home — but just be sure you don’t overdo it if you have reduced mobility.

Age UK advises roping in family members to help with heavy or high jobs such as taking down curtains. And cleaning the carpets and floors will be much easier when someone has helped you move all the heavy furniture out of the way.

It’s a good time to check for

out-of-date food and clear old items from your wardrobe, too.

Light fittings and windows should be dusted and it’s also an idea to air the mattress.

Getting a professional to do a deep clean can make sense, so that your regular cleaning is much easier to keep on top of.

You might also be thinking about refurbishing your ‘nest’ with an item such as a stairlift to make it better suited to your needs.

Leading assisted living companies train fitters to be very considerate to older customers.

And careful planning means they should be able to get on with the work efficiently, so that any upheaval is short-lived.
