HEALTH WARNING FOR UNITED TRIO
MANCHESTER UNITED trio Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw may have scored an international own goal by turning out for their club on Saturday after missing England’s European Championship qualifying double-header.
Gareth Southgate will no doubt take a dim view of the group’s participation in a 2-1 victory over Watford, with Shaw and Rashford playing 90 minutes and Lingard coming off the bench.
The England manager, blessed with options across the pitch, had already expressed his surprise after Lingard, who decided against joining up with the Three Lions to protect a hamstring issue, subsequently started United’s previous match, an FA Cup tie at Wolves.
Meanwhile, it is understood that the reason for Jadon Sancho missing the 5-1 win in Montenegro was, rather than reported ‘fitness concerns’, down to a desire from Southgate to give Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi a chance to impress.
