Tomkins booed on return

-

SAM TOMKINS endured a miserable return to Wigan with Catalans Dragons as the Warriors ran in seven tries to make it back-toback Super League wins. Tomkins, 30, who left Wigan at the end of last season for the south of France, was booed whenever he touched ball during the 42-0 rout. Wigan led by only eight points at the break, with Joe Burgess grabbing his first try of the season. But the Warriors ran in six more tries in the second half, Burgess adding two more to complete his hat-trick while George Williams, Oliver Gildart, Zak Hardaker and Jarrod Sammut also crossed for the defending champions. Wigan coach Adrian Lam said: ‘I could feel it coming. At half-time I felt we had four or five opportunities we didn’t take. Everyone will be talking about 42 points but I was more than happy with no points against.’ Wakefield coach Chris Chester was delighted as his side secured a 33-22 win over Salford to leapfrog their opponents into fourth place. ‘It was a really gritty performance,’ Chester said. ‘It’s pleasing against a good Salford side.’ Akuila Uate scored twice as Huddersfield continued their revival with seven tries in a 38-26 win at London. Coach Simon Woolford said: ‘We’ve shown glimpses that we’ve turned the corner.’
