Jonny blasts first T20 ton

-

JONNY BAIRSTOW outscored Ashes rival David Warner as he scorched to his first ever Twenty20 ton in the Indian Premier League yesterday. The England star (below) smashed 114 from 56 balls, including seven sixes and 12 fours at a strike rate of 203.57, to help Sunrisers Hyderabad thrash Royal Challengers Bangalore. Bairstow’s century was part of a 185run opening stand — a competition record — with Warner, who hit 100 from 55 balls. The pair even shared a hug after Bairstow had reached three figures. They led their side to 231 for two and went on to win by 118 runs. ‘I’m absolutely cooked,’ said Bairstow. ‘It was fantastic to bat in the middle with him (Warner).’ Warner, whose year-long ban for balltampering on Australia’s tour of South Africa in 2017 ended last week, added: ‘The 12 months has done me well. I feel refreshed.’ Jofra Archer, who hopes to force his way into the England World Cup squad, shone with the ball (2-17) and the bat (24 not out), but couldn’t stop Rajasthan Royals losing to Chennai Super Kings by eight runs. England Test hopefuls Ben Duckett and James Vince were in sparkling form in their warm-up matches ahead of the county season. Duckett hit 216 for his new county Notts against Cambridge University while Hampshire’s Vince scored 139 against Oxford students.
