Scottish Rugby Union evidently has pots of money, given that it has just bought a 30 per cent stake in Washington-based U.S. rugby franchise Old Glory DC, ahead of its entry into Major League Rugby next year. On the basis that there are just two professional teams north of the border, there would have been ample scope for infrastructure investment closer to home, rather than joining the desperate, unseemly scramble for dollars.
