HE is said to be facing heart surgery after cancelling the Rolling Stones’ US tour at short notice.

But Sir Mick Jagger still managed to look happy and relaxed as he enjoyed a family day out on the beach.

The 75-year-old singer will have an operation in New York this week to replace a leaking heart valve, US website Drudge Report claimed yesterday.

Details of Sir Mick’s condition emerged after the Stones shocked fans by scrapping their lucrative 17-date tour which was due to begin in Miami on April 20.

A statement said ‘something untoward’ had been detected as Sir Mick underwent a routine pre-tour health scan. The problem was not specified but the band said their frontman required medical treatment.

Sir Mick is expected to make a full recovery by this summer, sources told US website Drudge Report. Sir Mick’s representatives did not respond to a request for coment but those close to the father of eight, who follows a strict diet and exercise regime, have insisted that the issue is a ‘minor setback’ and that he remains in good health.

And he certainly appeared in fine spirits as he sunned himself on Miami Beach on Sunday with his ballet dancer girlfriend Melanie Hamrick, who at 32 is 43 years his junior, and their son Deveraux, two.

Sir Mick’s daughter Georgia May, 27, from his marriage to Jerry Hall, joined them as they played sandcastles. Earlier the singer, Miss Hamrick and their son were seen playing on a balcony in Miami. His bandmate Keith Richards was spotted on a balcony nearby.

Sir Mick’s illness was revealed on Saturday when the Stones announced they were postponing their sell- out No Filter tour, from which they were expected to gross up to £6.5million per show. A spokesman said a replacement US tour is already booked for late summer, by which time Sir Mick is expected to have made a full recovery.

Jagger apologised to fans left in a tweet on Saturday, writing: ‘I’m so sorry to all our fans in America and Canada with tickets.

‘I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.’

Richards and Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood both tweeted their support for Sir Mick.

Richards wrote: ‘A big disappointment for everyone but things need to be taken care of and we will see you soon. Mick, we are always there for you!’. Wood said: ‘We’ll miss you over the next few weeks, but we’re looking forward to seeing you all again very soon.’
