Corrie star felled by falling scenery

FORMER Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati was knocked out when a piece of stage scenery hit her on the head.

Shocked audience members heard a loud bang then saw the all-female cast of Richard II gather round her.

The play stopped and director Adjoa Andoh cancelled the performance at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse beside London’s Globe Theatre.

Audience member Ruth Pope said: ‘It was pretty shocking. She certainly didn’t seem conscious when we left the theatre.’

Miss Gulati, 52, who was playing the Duke of York, was taken to hospital after the accident and

performances on Friday and Sunday were cancelled. The mother of one later tweeted: ‘I’m recovering at home and being wonderfully cared for by my son.’ She hopes to be back on stage this week.
