Light on the matter

I SYMPATHISE with the residents of Knowle in Bristol, who are angry that their historic, wrought-iron lampposts are being moved to an ‘affluent area’, such as Clifton.

My sister lives in Montpelier, another district of Bristol, and was most unhappy to see council workers lifting stone paving slabs and replacing them with concrete ones.

She asked where the stone ones were being sent and was told: ‘Somewhere posh like Clifton.’

The council soon learned not to mess with my sister!
