Olly blasts McClaren as he gets QPR boot

- By MATT BARLOW and SIMON JONES

STEVE McCLAREN was sacked by Queens Park Rangers yesterday after a disastrous plunge towards the relegation zone capped by defeat at home by crisis club Bolton on Saturday. Former England manager McClaren took over from Ian Holloway on a two-year deal last summer but has won just once in the Championship since Boxing Day.

QPR chief executive Lee Hoos said: ‘Making a decisionn such as this is when never you easy, are particularly are talking about someone e as professional and dedicated as Steve.

‘But as we look to the future, and taking recent results into account, we feel now is the right time to reevaluate - where we are.’

No sooner had he been axed than McClaren was blblasted td by his predecessor Holloway, who told talkSPORT: ‘He took my job. I still had another year left at the club. I’m still being paid by them now.

‘He was talking to the chairman while I was in the job, saying what he’d do. He hasn’t been able to do that. What goes around comes around. He had my babies and took my kids. It means the world to me. I felt I was in the best position to do that job.’ Former West Brom boss Darren Moore is among the candidates being considered to replace McClaren. Tim Sherwood, Mark Warburton and Michael Appleton have also been discussed. Meanwhile, Alex Neil is the preferred preferred candidate to succeed More as manager at the Hawthorns. James Shan’s success aas caretaker at West Brom, where he has presided over three successive wins, has given the club time to consider their options. Though Shan has impressed, it is understood that Albion believe 37-year-old Neil has the necessary experience, having impressed on a limited budget this season and taken Norwich up to the Premier League previously. Slavisa Jokanovic has also been discussed and remains an option. Despite a flurry of bets, Sam Allardyce is not among those being considered.
