VAR on big screens for Cup

- By JOE BERNSTEIN

FOR the first time this weekend, VAR incidents will be replayed to supporters inside a football stadium in England. The FA are extending their VAR trial to allow fans attending the two FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley to see any incident referred to the video assistant. Clubs in England are banned from showing contentious incidents, and until now trials of VAR in the FA and Carabao cups have not allowed replays to be shown on stadium big screens. Meanwhile, Manchester City will stay in London for three nights after their FA Cup semi-final against Brighton so they are fresh to face Tottenham in the Champions League. Pep Guardiola has decided to set up camp in the capital as a way of stopping travel fatigue hampering City’s bid for an historic Quadruple. City meet Brighton at 5.30pm on Saturday at Wembley, with their European quarter-final first leg at Spurs taking place the following Tuesday evening. Guardiola believes 72 hours of training and rest is the best way for his players to recharge. City’s Premier League game against Cardiff tomorrow is their 51st of the season in all competitions.
