LLORIS STILL No 1 FOR POCH
TOTTENHAM have no plans to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer. Captain Hugo Lloris’s place has regularly come under scrutiny this season after a series of errors. His form was thrust into the spotlight again on Sunday after his mistake gifted Liverpool a late winner at Anfield. But it is understood the club do not plan to sign a new keeper. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is prioritising other areas to strengthen this summer. Tottenham want two new central midfielders, particularly if they are successful in offloading Victor Wanyama. Pochettino also wants to add creativity, with Christian Eriksen looking likely to leave as he stalls on a new deal with just one year left on his contract. A new left back and a support striker for Harry Kane are also on Tottenham’s list, while they will be in the market for a central defender if, as expected, they lose Toby Alderweireld, who has a £25million release clause. Spurs realise that signing an upgrade on Lloris would mean a huge financial commitment. The Frenchman lifted the World Cup in Russia last summer and has been one of Europe’s most accomplished keepers since arriving in 2012. Pochettino rates deputy Paulo Gazzaniga highly and the Argentine could replace Lloris should Lloris’s form continue to slide.
