1,000ft Tulip in Square Mile gets go-ahead

-

A SKYSCRAPER dubbed the Tulip is set to soar 1,000ft above the streets of London.

City of London planners have now given the go-ahead and if it is signed off by London Mayor Sadiq Khan the building should be finished by 2025. Designed by Sir Norman Foster, the Tulip, right, will feature a glass- walled ‘ bud’ with 12 floors of visitor attractions on top of a 787ft ‘stalk’.

A viewing platform will allow 1.2million visitors a year to gaze out across the capital from the site next to the Gherkin. It will be the tallest tower in the Square Mile and just short of the 1,016ft Shard at London Bridge.

But Duncan Wilson of Historic England said: ‘The setting of the Tower of London, a symbol of the city not just to millions of Londoners but to the whole world and one of our most visited places, will be harmed.’
