‘Fifth victim of serial slasher’ knifed yards from police
A KNIFEMAN behind a string of random stabbings claimed his fifth victim yesterday, police believe.
The latest attack took place just 150 yards from a police cordon after an earlier knifing. The victim, a man in his 30s, staggered to get help from nearby officers after being stabbed at around 5am.
He was targeted as he walked down a residential street with a friend. His injuries are said to be life-threatening.
All five attacks have taken place within a few streets of each other in Edmonton, north London. A 45-year-old woman and three men were targeted in a 14-hour spree at the weekend. She and a man of 29 were left with life-changing injuries.
The suspect has been described as a tall and skinny black man in a hooded top.
A man in his 30s was arrested outside a Lidl supermarket at around 10am yesterday. He remained in custody at a north London police station last night.
Two other men were arrested on Sunday. One was bailed and the other Evidence: Forensic officer at scene remains in custody. Forensic officers searched the house of one suspect.
Met Police Chief Superintendent Helen Millichap said detectives believe one person is ‘likely’ to be behind all five stabbings and warned the public to stay vigilant. She said: ‘The actions of the suspect, the fact the incidents are in a similar area and the descriptions given mean we are potentially only looking for one individual perpetrator.’
A man aged 22 who was knifed to death in the street by a group of young men was named last night as Calvin Bungisa. His uncle Jean said Mr Bungisa – who was killed in Kentish Town, north London, on Monday – was ‘full of life and very popular’.
