Entwined: The H and M symbol The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have launched their own Instagram page, the next step in the separation of their household from that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The couple will now share photographs, insights and ‘ important announcements’ on their own feed, @SussexRoyal, as opposed to their shared platform with William and Kate, @KensingtonRoyal.

In a personal message accompanying their first picture – an image of their royal cypher – harry and Megan wrote: ‘Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues.’

The post included a gallery of photos of harry and Meghan on engagements, including their trips to Australia and Fiji.

Kensington Palace’s Twitter feed introduced the new account, saying: ‘Welcome to Instagram, SussexRoyal!’

Princess eugenie posted an engagement picture of the couple on Instagram with the message: ‘Welcome cousins’.

The @SussexRoyal Instagram account had nearly 300,000 followers within an hour In Fiji: One of the photos Harry and Meghan shared on their new account of launching. They include Meghan’s best friend Jessica Mulroney and celebrities David Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Last month it was announced that Meghan and harry’s new household will be based at Buckingham Palace, while Kate and William – a future King and Prince of Wales – will remain at Kensington Palace.

The Sussexes have employed a new PR chief, Sara Latham, and will eventually hire their own staff. They do not have their own Twitter account.

Former actress Meghan revealed last month that she does not read newspapers or engage with Twitter to avoid getting ‘muddled’ by the ‘noise’, whether positive or negative. She used to have her own Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as a lifestyle website The Tig, but closed them ahead of her wedding to harry.

The Sussexes’ new Instagram account has been introduced less than a month after the Royal Family published new guidelines for members of the public interacting with them on social media. It warned that trolls who post offensive or abusive messages on official royal channels will be blocked, and may even be reported to the police.

This followed news that Kensington Palace staff were spending hours each week moderating online abuse aimed at Kate and pregnant Meghan.
