Daughter loses Clifford appeal

-

A POSTHUMOUS attempt to clear the name of disgraced publicist Max Clifford failed yesterday.

The PR agent, pictured, was convicted of eight ‘very serious’ indecent assaults in 2014, but died proclaiming his innocence three years into his eight-year sentence.

Clifford’s daughter Louise took over the appeal process after his death with lawyers arguing ‘new evidence’ cast doubt on his victims’ claims. But yesterday the Court of Appeal refused leave for a full appeal hearing because none of the arguments ‘came near imperilling the safety of this conviction’.

Kim Harrison, a solicitor who represented victims in civil cases against Clifford, said: ‘Hopefully, this will put an end to efforts to clear [his] name and give his victims the chance to put these terrible events behind them.
