Do we need a snap General Election?

-

WHY would having a General Election change anything? At the last election, the Conservative and Labour parties both pledged to leave the EU. Theresa May seems unable to do so, and Jeremy Corbyn, who has always been anti-EU membership, is now unwilling to do so. Why would anyone ever vote again when the outcome is ignored?

J. BARRY, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. EVEN the suggestion of a General Election shows the low level to which political life has sunk. Why allow even the remotest chance of a Labour government, which would bankrupt the country in weeks? MPs should just grow up and carry out Brexit as promised. Then we can get on with all the much more important issues.

HELEN PENNEY, Longborough, Glos.

HEAVEN forbid that we have a General Election. Disgruntled voters will not vote.

FRANK BERRESFORD, Northampton. TO EVEN think of calling a snap election is ridiculous. Preparations have started for the local elections in May and volunteers knocking on doors and handing out leaflets in my area are reporting back hostility on the doorstep. The disillusionment with MPs’ behaviour is so great that many voters say they will abstain.

G. BARRETT, Bristol.

PLEASE, Mrs May, do not call a General Election. I do not want the possibility that the keys to No 10 will end up in the hands of Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell and Diane Abbott, whose aim is to destroy everything good about Britain.

JOHN McBAIN, Witney, Oxon. UkraiNE may elect a comedian as its president. The Uk has more than 650 comedians who may be Prime Minister.

M. STROUD, Wakefield, W. Yorks.

THERE is no point in having a General Election or a People’s Vote. They are both a nonsense, as neither will carry a greater mandate than the referendum. Besides, what makes anyone think MPs will listen?

JEFF DAVISON, Swanmore, Hants.
