Eubank eyes Khan trainer

- By JEFF POWELL in San Francisco

CHriS EUBAnk Jnr has turned to Amir khan’s trainer in a bid to take his career to the next level. Eubank is working at Virgil Hunter’s gym in northern California, leaving behind the team who helped him regain the iBo world super-middleweight title against James DeGale five weeks ago. Both Eubank and Hunter were diplomatic when commenting on the new partnership. ‘i’m not saying Virgil is my new trainer,’ said 29-yearold Eubank. ‘But it could absolutely turn into something. i’m testing the waters. i’ve seen what he’s done over the years and i want to see it in person.’ the veteran trainer, who is preparing khan for his world welterweight title challenge to terence Crawford on April 20 in new York, said: ‘i don’t know if we will end up working together but i believe i can help him and maybe we could do a couple of camps. Chris will have to think about how he manages his time. i can’t be away from my other fighters for eight weeks in the Uk so the camps would have to be here. Whoever taught Chris taught him hands first — it should be feet first. ‘it was impressive he got this far without a full-time trainer but when it was his time to shine, he was in the dark. George Groves exposed him. He’s all-action but right now he’s carpet bombing. that softens people up but you have to get your feet in to position to drop your payload. But there’s upsides. His fighting inside, which is hard to teach, is very, very good.’

lAmir KhAn challenges Terence Crawford for the WBO world welterweight title live on BT Sport Box Office on April 20.
