Fever puts Pele in Paris hospital
FOOTBALL legend Pele was taken to hospital in Paris yesterday after falling ill.
The 78-year-old had a ‘crisis of tetany’ – or involuntary muscle cramps – as well as a fever, reported French media.
The Brazilian World Cup winner has struggled with health issues in recent years. He pulled out of the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro due to unspecified health reasons and attended the 2018 World Cup draw in a wheelchair. In January 2018, he was also unable to attend a tribute dinner held in his honour by the Football Writers’ Association in London.
The former striker was in France to meet with French forward Kylian Mbappe as part of his ambassador role for a Swiss luxury watch brand.
