Royal Mail makes Ella’s day with a reply from her ‘Mummy in Heaven’
IT WAS a Mother’s Day card to melt the heart – a message of love from a grieving little girl to her ‘Mummy in Heaven’.
When Ella Lennon, four, put the note in a postbox, she never dreamed she would receive a reply. But in a touching gesture, a staff member at Royal Mail delivered Ella a letter from her mother, saying how proud she was of her.
Her aunt, Linda Ross, said: ‘On my sister’s first heavenly Mother’s Day, Ella sent her mummy a card. Today a kind stranger from Royal Mail used their time to reply and make a little girl so happy.’ She added: ‘Her face lit up with the biggest smile. Just shows the amazing people in this world! Can’t thank you enough.’
Ella, from Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire, lost her mother Jennifer in December, reportedly due to a brain tumour. She sent her a Despicable Me-themed card which, in a reference to the film series’ Minion mascots, said: ‘You’re one in a minion Mum.’ Her message on the envelope read: ‘To Mummy in heaven, Happy Mother’s Day. I love you, Ella x.’
Two days later, a letter came back. It said: ‘To my beautiful Ella. Thank you so much for my very special Mother’s Day card. You’re one in a minion to me and I love you very, very much. Millions and billions and trillions is how much I love you! You are growing up to be a very clever and special big girl and I am so proud of you, and even though I am in heaven I watch over you every day! Lots of love, hugs and kisses, Mummy.’
The letter’s envelope has the return address of ‘1 Angel Gate, In the clouds, Heaven.’
Ella’s father, Dean, wrote on social media: ‘I would like to thank the kind-hearted person at the Royal Mail.’
Twitter users were moved by Ella’s story. One wrote ‘I just cried’, while another said: ‘I’m sobbing! This is beautiful.’
