Bad sport

I HOPE Mike Ashley fails in his attempt for more control of Debenhams.

After his takeover of House of Fraser, all the branches within 50 miles of my home have been listed for closure.

Shopping online is useless because the delivery charge has been increased and most of the fashion brands have been replaced by sportswear. There are so few department stores left, so don’t let Debenhams become another Sports Direct.

B. SIMPSON, Preston, Lancs. THOUGH Richard Littlejohn’s column was tongue in cheek, his suggestion that we should send in Philip Green and Mike Ashley to negotiate on our behalf with the EU is not a bad idea.

What has been a disaster for this country is leaving matters in the hands of pro-Remain civil servants and gormless, self-serving MPs.

We should leave without a deal, and then get a group of experienced business leaders to strike trade deals directly with EU businesses, circumventing politicians.

ROBERT BISHOP, Billingshurst, W. Sussex.
