Alesha killer to appeal against life sentence

THE teenager who abducted, raped and murdered six-yearold Alesha MacPhail is appealing against his jail sentence.

Aaron Campbell, 16, was given life with a minimum term of 27 years at his trial last month.

He had denied ever meeting Alesha but finally admitted his crimes just before being sentenced for killing the girl on the Scottish island of Bute in July last year.

The judge at Glasgow’s High Court, Lord Matthews, described Campbell as a ‘cold, callous, calculating, remorseless and dangerous individual’.

The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service confirmed yesterday he had lodged the appeal.
