Homophobic and misogynistic books in Islamic school library
A PRIVATE Islamic primary school failed an Ofsted inspection after officials found homophobic and misogynistic books in its library.
Officials said the east London school, which charges fees of £2,600 a year, had failed to protect pupils from extreme views.
An excerpt from one book at Zakariya Primary School read: ‘Many so-called wise people are committing it, but sodomy is such an awful thing that even animals abhor it except the pigs.’ Another read: ‘A wife must not deny herself to her husband ... moreover, the wife is not permitted to do anything that may render her companionship less desirable or less gratifying.’
The school – based inside Forest Gate Mosque in Newham – could be closed down if it fails to improve. Trustee Asif Choudhury said it is taking steps to address the issues in the report.
Ofsted’s discovery comes amid high-profile protests led by Muslim parents in Manchester and Birmingham against teaching pupils about LGBT relationships.
