Angela Rippon has little time for social media. ‘I can’t be bothered with it for lots of reasons,’ the 74-year-old tells me. ‘If I want to get in touch with friends I pick up a telephone or I write to them or email them. I’ve done a public job for over 50 years so I value my privacy. It’s my closest friends and family who know what I do and where I am, not the world at large. I’m glad I didn’t have to rely on social media when I started out, unlike people today.’
