PILGRIMAGE: THE ROAD TO ROME, 9PM, BBC2

AFTER last year’s trek to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, the Beeb has selected a new set of celebs to hike the pilgrim path to Rome — Brendan Cole, Les Dennis, Lesley Joseph, Greg Rutherford, Dana Scallon, Stephen K. Amos, Katie Brand and Mehreen Baig (pictured). The aim, as before, is for philosophical, personality and religious differences to bubble up as the group head from Martigny in Switzerland to the Eternal City, and the result does make for an aboveaverage travelogue. You can’t help wishing there had been a basic fitness test, though, before everyone donned their hiking boots. Three of them have to hop on a bus halfway up the first serious hill . . .
