Jagger: I’m on mend but not jumping back yet

- From Daniel Bates in New York

SIR Mick Jagger told fans he was ‘on the mend’ yesterday after his recent heart operation.

The Rolling Stones frontman, 75, thanked followers on social media for their messages of support and praised the medics who operated on him.

Sir Mick had previously apologised for having to postpone 17 tour dates due to illness.

He wrote on Twitter yesterday: ‘Thank you everyone for all your messages of support, I’m feeling much better now and on the mend – and also a huge thank you to all the hospital staff for doing a superb job.’

The post came amid reports that Sir Mick will not be able to return to the stage for four months because his body would not cope with his usual high-energy performances.

The Stones have had to postpone their North American tour until July, with a source saying the ‘strenuous’ demands of the singer’s routines would place too much stress on his body sooner than that. He is estimated to cover ten miles during gigs that last more than two hours.

The singer remained in hospital in New York last night after undergoing a non-invasive heart valve replacement. He could be released any day but has been told to rest. A source close to Sir Mick told People magazine in the US: ‘I was told he’s fine.

‘If it was someone else, they’d need to recover for two weeks but because Mick jumps around and the performances are strenuous, he needed to postpone the tour.’

Las month Sir Mick told of his ‘devastation’ after the Stones postponed their US and Canada tour, which was due to start on April 20.
