Briton killed in 100ft plunge on snowboard trip

-

A BRITISH snowboarder fell 100ft to his death in the French Alps yesterday.

The 50-year-old father was on a family holiday in the ski resort of Avoriaz and had gone off-piste, leaving his wife and child on the marked slopes.

Rescuers found him 100ft below a rocky ledge in an area called Pointe de la Chaux Fleurie in Montriond.

A spokesman said: ‘The man was with his family on holiday. He was in an offpiste area when he fell 30 metres.

‘A witness alerted mountain rescuers at around midday. But he was pronounced dead at the scene. An inquiry has been opened into his death.’

Montriond lies at the entrance to the popular Portes du Soleil area, which covers 13 ski resorts between Mont Blanc in France and Lake Geneva in Switzerland.
