Emery full of praise for new-look Ozil’s attitude

HARD work has helped Mesut Ozil regain his place in Arsenal’s starting line-up. The German was on the fringes of Unai Emery’s thinking throughout the winter and has only started five away games in the Premier League all season. Ozil has also been dropped for bigger games. It was becoming a growing problem for Arsenal, with a belief that they would have to find a way for Ozil — who is their highest earner on £350,000 a week — to leave in the summer. But Ozil (right) has started the last four games, his longest run since Emery took over last summer. And the Arsenal boss revealed that the midfielder’s efforts have earned him a berth in the team. ‘He is working well and helping us. I am very happy with him,’ he said. ‘The team is putting in a good effort and has good spirit and each player is helping us with his quality. This is the spirit I want.’ Ozil has not started a league away game since Boxing Day. But he could get a shot on the road at Everton tomorrow. Emery said he decides whether Ozil will feature on a game-by-game basis: ‘It depends on the match. He plays a lot of matches. It depends sometimes tactically. Maybe some matches he had an injury but now he has good work every day and I can choose a different system, different players. ‘For me, all season, all the players are very important on the bench. They must be ready to help us and change our moment in the game. With Mesut, I think I can do that.’ Emery has led Arsenal back into the top four and is keen for the Gunners to keep growing. ‘Arsenal have targets, collective­ly and individual­ly,’ he said. ‘I earned titles in Paris and Sevilla and here, we need to have the same objective — to win titles in the present and in the
