Hello again possums... Dame Edna’s final huzzah
STAND by for the return of Australia’s most outrageous housewife. Dame Edna Everage’s creator Barry Humphries tells me he’s bringing back his lilac-haired alter ego, whom he retired in 2013 after a 60-year comedy career.
‘I’ve been dragged out of retirement for one final spectacular TV show,’ Humphries says. I caught up with him at the launch of Nicky Haslam’s book The Impatient Pen at Hatchards in London’s Piccadilly, where guests included Joanna Lumley.

Last summer, Humphries provoked outrage among the easily offended when he called transgenderism ‘terrible rat-baggery’ and claimed ‘evil’ teachers were ‘turning’ children transgender.
