Speedboat killer returns this week– and he’s still moaning

- From Sam Greenhill in Tbilisi, Georgia

SPEEDBOAT killer Jack Shepherd is still protesting his innocence as he flies home to face British justice this week.

The 31-year-old fugitive is due to be extradited from Tbilisi in Georgia on Wednesday, having agreed to return to the UK after a year on the run.

Yesterday he told Georgian prison guards he was ‘sorry’ for what had happened to Charlotte Brown, 24, who died in 2015 after his speedboat flipped on the Thames while they were on a first date in London. He said: ‘I hope justice will be done and everyone can move forward with their lives.

‘I am very, very frightened but it seems this is the right thing to do. It was a tragic accident.’

Shepherd, originally from Exeter, is due to fly into Gatwick flight on Wednesday evening – the fare funded by the British taxpayer, sources in Tbilisi have said. Shepherd, pictured, fled in March 2018 before being found guilty of manslaughter at the Old Bailey in July. In January, the Daily Mail launched a worldwide campaign to track him down. Shepherd, who was sentenced to six years, has said he plans to appeal.
