Sky axe Strachan despite apology for Johnson gaffe

-

GORDON STRACHAN will no longer be used by Sky after he appeared to compare convicted sex offender Adam Johnson’s situation with racial abuse. The former Scotland manager, who issued an apology yesterday for what he said on Sky show

The Debate, has been widely condemned for his view. Former England and Sunderland winger Johnson, 31, has recently been released after serving three years in prison for sexual activity with a 15-year-old fan. Sky moved quickly to distance themselves from the pundit after Strachan said of Johnson: ‘If he goes on to the pitch and people start calling him names, have we got to do the same as it is to the racist situation?’ After an outcry, Strachan, 62, last night issued an apology. He said: ‘I should have communicated my point more clearly and without the need to refer to the earlier discussion, during which I was clear in my condemnation of the racist abuse which continues to blight football. ‘I would like to apologise for any unintended distress caused.’
