Murder arrest of girl, 15, after baby left in bin

-

A GIRL of 15 was arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of her newborn child was reportedly found inside a wheelie bin.

The girl, who lives with her parents, had apparently tried to deliver the baby at home. A neighbour also said the teenager’s father was very ill in hospital at the time and had since died.

Emergency services were called to a house in the market town of Ross-onWye in Herefordshire, after concerns were raised about the baby’s welfare.

The teenager was arrested shortly afterwards. She has been released on bail. A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: ‘The girl tried to deliver the baby by herself at home.

‘Something went terribly wrong and God knows why she didn’t call an ambulance but somehow the baby’s body was put in a bin in the garden.’

Another neighbour said: ‘I feel so sorry for the family. They’ve lost a grandfather and a little baby in a matter of days and now the girl has been arrested.’

West Mercia Police said it was still trying to establish how the baby died in the incident on Sunday, March 24. The force refused to reveal the baby’s gender.
