Councillor denies Hitler comment
LABOUR faced another racism storm last night after police launched an inquiry into a councillor over a Facebook post which stated ‘Hitler had the right idea’.
Bob Murray, a former mayor of Prestatyn in North Wales, faced universal condemnation after the comment appeared under his name in a discussion about travellers.
Following a post by a fellow Labour councillor about a traveller camp in the town, it read: ‘Hitler had the right idea, anyone hot [sic] any gas canisters?’
North Wales Police then launched an investigation into an alleged hate crime as campaigners called for his expulsion from Labour.
But last night councillor Murray said he ‘categorically’ denied writing the ‘vicious’ post and was taking legal advice himself. The Labour Party told the BBC such comments were ‘fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate disciplinary action [would be] taken’.
