Labour MP Glenda Jackson has adopted a new crusade — to pioneer sex-swapping on the Broadway stage. Oscar-winner Jackson, 82, has just opened in the title role of King Lear in New York. ‘We’ve been pursuing this kind of gender bender battle in England for quite some time,’ Glenda declares, ‘and I think it’s won, actually. Certainly it is in my country. I can see it very much winning in America, too.’ But, in a sign that some things never change, following her opening night performance, Jackson kept reporters waiting by having a cigarette and a glass of red wine before assuming media duties.
