Out of tune
I HAVE heard of yet another school that has been cancelling music lessons.
The TV shows about choirs presented by Gareth Malone have shown what a therapeutic effect music has, yet it seems tuition will soon be available only to the rich.
Music benefits children who are shy, hyperactive or disruptive, as well as the confident high-flyers. People with dementia and depression are encouraged to join a choir.
Why are we depriving youngsters of the great benefits of music-making? More and more state schools are stopping music, drama and art — but somehow I can’t see them dropping football. MARGAREt tAYLOR, Nottingham.
