IT DOESN’T PAY TO BE TOP DOG
IN THE 33-year history of the world rankings, there have been 80 majors when Tiger Woods wasn’t world No 1, and just three of them were won by the game’s top player — Ian Woosnam (right), Fred Couples (at the 1991 and 1992 Masters respectively), and Rory McIlroy at the 2014 USPGA. There have also been 52 majors played when Tiger was world No 1 — and he won 11 of them.
